Dr Paul Michau
Colorectal Surgeon
Cert Gastroenterology(SA) Surg, Mmed(Surgery), FCS(SA), MBChB(Pret)
Dr Michau is a colorectal surgeon who joined The Colorectal Surgery Trust in May 2026, extending the practice to Mediclinic Cape Gate and bringing specialist colorectal care to patients in Brackenfell, Kraaifontein, Kuils River and the surrounding northern suburbs. His special interests are general colorectal surgery, advanced colonoscopy and proctology — the treatment of haemorrhoids, anal fissures, fistulas and other anal conditions.
Training and career
Dr Michau qualified in medicine at the University of Pretoria, then spent nearly a decade in the Western Cape’s public health system — including more than eight years as a medical officer in the Department of General Surgery at Worcester Provincial Hospital, a high-volume regional hospital where he gained broad experience across trauma, gastrointestinal, breast, head and neck, and vascular surgery.
He completed his specialist surgical training at Stellenbosch University, obtaining his Fellowship of the College of Surgeons of South Africa and his Master of Medicine, and served as a consultant surgeon at Tygerberg Hospital, where he completed his sub-specialist surgical gastroenterology fellowship in colorectal surgery with its Da Vinci robotics programme.
That path — years of broad frontline surgery before sub-specialising — gives Dr Michau an unusually well-rounded foundation for colorectal practice, from emergency abdominal surgery to elective minimally invasive procedures.
Dr Michau consults and operates at Mediclinic Cape Gate (Tanner Street, Cape Gate), bringing the practice’s approach — multidisciplinary planning, minimally invasive technique and long-term outcome tracking through the SAM Registry — to the Cape Gate community.
Appointments: phone the practice on +27 21 201 6582 — all bookings for both hospitals run through the same rooms.
